I do live in Nebraska and let me say the word fashionista has not yet made it to the heartland. We say styly.
I also want to say that I think you are doing a fabulous job with your blog! I love the voice you are developing sensitive yet robust, globe-trotting but down to earth. When I read your recipes, I want to try them -- altho here in Nebraska the associations with vinegar and afterbirth are somewhat jarring. Any recipes for corn and pig jowls? Styly, huh? Not bad. Actually, I can give you a recipe for corn tamales or corn chowder ...and how about pig's feet? Interested?
My mother-in-law used to make pig's feet with white beans--something I never though I'd eat, but I must confess to eating it straight out of the pot after going to the movies in Trastevere--Cinema Pasquino--a converted church--on a cold winter's night back in 1970! Must have been a helluva movie.
